Two New York Rangers RFA's still without a contract after deadline
The deadline for NHL RFA's has officially passed and the New York Rangers have two players on the list for RFA's who haven't signed yet.
The deadline for remaining RFAs to sign their qualifying offers was 4 p.m. CT on July 15th. If a player doesn't sign their qualifying offer, the team that owns their signing rights still has first right of refusal or draft choice compensation should they sign an offer sheet with another team, but a guaranteed offer is no longer on the table from their current team. Teams can extend QOs past today's deadline on a case-by-case basis if they notify the player in writing. Players who are 10.2(c) RFAs or those who have filed for arbitration are ineligible to sign offer sheets.
The two players who haven't signed their QO are Ryan Lindgren and Karl Henriksson, as Matthew Robertson has re-signed with the team.
Matthew Robertson
Robertson agreed to the Rangers to a one-year, two-way deal with the team. The 2019 NHL Draft pick, had call-ups last season, but was unable to crack the lineup, despite all the injuries the Blueshirts had. Robertson's development is to continue, as the Edmonton, Alberta product has been defined as a smart, puck-moving defenseman.
Robertson has been in the organization since being drafted with the 49th overall pick (Round 2) in 2019 and he is still looking to crack the NHL level, which he may have a chance to do this season.
Karl Henriksson
Karl Henriksson departed for Sweden in June this off-season as he signed with the SHL. All the while the team did tender a qualifying offer, likely to retain the player's rights should he try to make an attempt to come back in the NHL in the future.
New York Rangers
F Karl Henriksson ($874,125)
D Ryan Lindgren ($3.6MM) filed for arbitration
D Matthew Robertson ($840,000)
Henriksson signed a three-year deal in Sweden, ending the Rangers own J.T. Miller trade-tree with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Ryan Lindgren
Only a week ago, did Ryan Lindgren and the New York Rangers file for arbitration, meaning this contract negotiation will be settled by a third party soon, or if Lindgren and the team find a contract value they both like beforehand, he could sign before the arbitration date.
Lindgren while still not signed, will have first right or refusal, and if a team does offer sheet the tough defenseman, would receive draft picks in compensation. That however doesn't seem likely, given his injury history.
