But according to The Athletic's Arthur Staple, he could be a fit for the New York Rangers.
According to Staple, should the Rangers move on from Kaapo Kakko, he would be a great replacement forward.
Sprong and Peter Laviolette have a history, as Sprong was a player with the Washington Capitals during Laviolette's tenure:
However, Sprong wasn't the same winger with the caps, that he was with the Seattle Kraken and Detroit Red Wings the last two seasons in the NHL.
He was a perennial 20-point player in Washington at that point, whereas with Detroit and Seattle, has been an 18 and 20-goal scorer, each year scoring 40+ points, an efficient winger playing only 12 minutes a night.
The former second-round pick in the 2015 draft, has never earned more than the league minimum, until his arrival in Detroit, where he earned $2 Million AAV.
Now that he's put together two 40-point seasons he could earn upwards of $4 M AAV, as projected by AFP Analytics.
But since the majority of NHL teams have spent the most of their cap space, it seems unlikely it he could achieve that figure.
Keep a lookout for GM Chris Drury and the Rangers, if they don't receive a top-nine winger in return for Kakko.
