The New York Rangers announced another roster cut today, as they are closer to the finalization of their opening night lineup.

Today they announced that they would be waiving prospect Matthew Robertson for purposes of reassignment to the Hartford Wolfpack.
Robertson didn't end up making the Rangers lineup this season and if he clears waivers, will join prospects like Dylan Garand, Brennan Othmann, Brett Berard, and other Rangers prospects in the AHL.
His preseason didn't start well as he had begun the year with a day-to-day injury.
Robertson is tending to a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports Tuesday.

Robertson was a second-round pick by the Rangers in the 2019 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-4 blueliner has spent the last three seasons with AHL Hartford, where he has collected 55 points in 190 regular-season outings. Robertson will be hard-pressed to earn time at the NHL level in 2024-25.
For a defenseman with good size, he displays outstanding skating ability (he is smooth and makes it look effortless when on the ice). He can be used in all game situations, since he is very responsible with the puck. Displays outstanding hockey sense and passing ability. He sees the ice very well. While he is very heady, he could stand to improve his overall play without the puck. Could also use a little more upper-body strength.

After this placement on waivers, will Robertson have a future in the Rangers system?
Robertson was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2019 NHL draft, 49th overall, and hasn't been able to crack the NHL lineup yet.
Robertson was placed on waivers Sunday, PuckPedia reports.

Robertson had four goals and 21 points across 68 regular-season outings with AHL Hartford in 2023-24. He will likely spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.
