New York Rangers forward experiences special moment while being in Vancouver
Jake Leschyshyn, hasn't been able to draw into the New York Rangers regular lineup during the Western Road trip.
But during this time, he got a special experience in Vancouver, as an extra. He was recently called up from the Hartford Wolfpack after Filip Chytil suffered an upper-body injury.
New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the club has recalled forward Jake Leschyshyn from the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack.
Leschyshyn, 25, has scored four points (1 g, 3 a) in 13 games with the Wolf Pack this season. He leads the club in shorthanded points with two (1 g, 1 a). The native of Raleigh, NC, recorded a shorthanded assist in the club's 4-2 victory over the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night.
While the Rangers played in Vancouver during the trip,Leschyshyn was able to meet up with his father during the game.
The Athletic's Peter Baugh mentioned that Curtis and Jake met up in the press box during the game in Vancouver.
A story like this resonates with us, because not only is hockey a game of passion, but it's a family sport.
The Leschshysyns are separated from each other for long periods due to commitments to their organizations.
But in troubled times even there are moments that are heartfelt and wholesome such as this.
It's unknown whether Lescshyshyn will draw into the lineup anytime soon, but maybe good old Dad imparted some good advice that will get him a spot on the Rangers sooner rather than later.
Leschyshyn will need to build upon the 47 games played in Hartford last season, which saw him score 19 points( 8 G, 11 A) and was relevant during the Calder Cup playoffs, playing 10 games, tallying 6 points( 5 G, 1 A).
He may yet get another shot in the NHL soon, but times with Dad are priceless.
