In a recent interview, general manager Chris Drury of the New York Rangers revealed why Rangers forward Kappo Kakko struggled last season which was due to an injury filled year.

Rangers management along with the coaching staff felt that he deserves another chance to see if he can fit in with the blue shirts as the Rangers awarded him a one-year contract worth $2.4 million.
«He dealt with an injury last year & admittedly he didn't have the best year... Another guy that had a terrific offseason and in early testing just looks great,» Drury said. «I think he's out to prove that last year was a fluke, and he's ready to have a good year for us.»
Drury attempted to trade him during the summer as he seeked out an offer from multiple general managers which turned out to be unfruitful. The growing consensus is the general managers were not willing to pay the price that Drury was looking for.
Kakko Has been with the Rangers for five seasons as he was drafted in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft second overall. The organization had high hopes for this pick, but he has yet to break out of his slump and find his game with the Rangers.
It's likely that he will fit alongside a line with Filip Chytil and Will Cuylle Which could bode well for the 23-year-old forward.
It seems that this is the last attempt by the Rangers to see if he can make the team and become a factor.
