The New York Rangers season is in peril and has been spiraling down over the past several weeks and it was announced earlier yesterday that there was a player only meeting to discuss general manager Chris Drury.

It was tweeted on the X platform That the players do not have a gripe with head coach Peter Laviolette. The team has a good relationship with him it appears the main issue is the general manager Drury has essentially declared war on his roster and has put everyone on edge after trading their captain, Jacob Trouba.

It's likely the players have a major issue on how the trade went down and what was said to Trouba for him to accept the deal.

Over the past several months there seems to be a forceful style of management that is basically ripping out players from the line up and using loopholes to find ways to make them move like Barclay Goodrow.

During the summer, Drury used a loophole to put Goodrow on waivers which circumvented his no trade clause and is perfectly legal to do so in which the San Jose Sharks claimed him for free, but many have said that the Sharks were on his no trade list.

Drury used his waiver threat again when he made the attempt to trade Jacob Trouba after he blocked a deal between the Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets a few weeks ago.

Trouba explained that he basically was forced to choose or be put on waivers in which he could go anywhere as he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks.

This aggressive style of management has not really been seen in the NHL in many years and it's quite likely it has cost the team trust and loyalty to the Rangers as the team has performed miserably since these moves were made. It's not known whether this is Drury's doing, or he is forced to make these moves from ownership in James Dolan.

What is clear is that this has made the dressing room toxic and the players beginning to revolt against their team which could be at the expense of their head coach even if they don't intend it to be.

It's tricky times in New York and the players will have to walk a tightrope and be very selective in what they do next which is win more hockey games.
