The New York Rangers are fighting for their lives to make it to the playoffs this year and currently sit 6th in the Eastern Conference, and five points out of a playoff spot.

Every game, and win right now is crucial for the Rangers, and last night they were taking on a struggling Penguins team who were without their captain Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin.
Somehow the New York Rangers found a way to lose this game 3-2 in regulation, even though the Penguins did not register a shot in the third period. Following the game Vincent Trocheck did not hold back and called out his teammates.
Via The Score:
«There's no excuse, even if there was a why,» Trocheck said. «We can't have that. Inexcusable. We know where we're at in the standings, we know we need every point. With two games left before break, we can't have what just happened.»

«I don't think we worked tonight,» Trocheck said. «We weren't ready for the first, arguably, 40 (minutes). Outplayed them in the third by a lot. Had tons of opportunities, but you can't wait.»

«Can't lose 40 minutes and expect to win a game.»

Vincent Trocheck ended up opening the scoring in the first period for the New York Rangers, but the Penguins would go on to score three goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the third period.
In the final 20 minutes of the game, the New York Rangers outshot the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-0, but were unable to score. They even had two power play opportunities in the final frame, but came up short once again.
Today, the Rangers are given another chance to get back into the win column before they go on their two week break for the Four Nations Faceoff takes place. The Rangers will be facing off against the Columbus Blue Jackets today, and to say it's a must win game is an understatement.
As of right now, the Rangers have a record of 26-24-4, and having this two week break may do them good. They started the season off hot, but all the drama surrounding Jacob Trouba and other Rangers seemed to have change the season for the club.
In their last 10 games, the Rangers have a record of 5-4-1, and will be looking to finish on a high note before they have some time off.
