The New York Rangers, unlike a bunch of other NHL teams weren't actively throwing money around this off-season.

GM Chris Drury would tighten the purse strings, as the Rangers didn't make any major signings or trade in July.

As a result, the team markedly looks the same going into the 2024-2025 regular season.

Drury would trade for Reilly Smith and depth forward Sam Carrick to bolster the forward depth. But would remain mum soon after.

The reasons? The team is still constrained due to the salary cap, and couldn't outbid teams on many players.

Drury's main objective, was to give the team some extra cap space, which he did by waiving Barclay Goodrow at the beginning of July.

They would fail to trade Jacob Trouba to clearn an extra $8 Million, another reason why Drury couldn't make extra moves.

But even then, Drury felt comfortable with the current roster, given they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024.

Peter Laviolette's first run as the Rangers new bench boss, saw them win a President's Trophy, as well. Ultimately, it could be argued that the team is one or two pieces away from a Stanley Cup.

Drury obviously felt it'd be ridiculous to reshape the entire roster, when they were 1 or 2 wins away from the Stanley Cup.

The team can make moves during the season, should they feel it's necessary, but for now, they're running it back.
