NHL Insider reveals the latest surrounding the New York Rangers and Canucks forward J.T. Miller
The New York Rangers were one team that was supposed in the Vancouver Canucks' JT Miller. One trade has fallen through, but will GM Chris Drury open negotiations again?
With the New York Rangers' loss to the Colorado Avalanche, they could use some help in the top six.
A player who could help turn the team around would be the Vancouver Canucks JT Miller. A player who has fallen through GM Chris Drury's hands once already.
With the Canucks' GM Patrik Allvin's latest statement, it appears that the club could be interested in moving him "proactively".
This is when Drury should swoop in, and pounce once more.
«Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford and general manager Patrik Allvin prefer to be proactive and decisive,» Thomas Drance of The Athletic wrote. «In fact, the club views dealing at high volume as a competitive edge. It's a philosophical tenant of how they want to go about their business.»
Another deal with the Carolina Hurricanes fell through, and instead of acquiring JT Miller, Eric Tulsky opted for
Mikko Rantanen and
Taylor Hall.
The Canes themselves saw multiple red flags during the deal, which caused it to stall according to Canucks Insider Thomas Drance.
«Given the term on Miller's deal, his age, the fact he retains some control over the situation as a result of his full no-move clause and that the Hurricanes and Rangers ultimately decided not to consummate the various deals on the table, however, tells us too that Miller's value as a trade asset isn't quite commensurate with his stature,» Drance wrote.
This could be where GM Chris Drury steps in and gets Miller for a bargain, as his trade value is obviously declining.
One reason is that he has a no-movement clause (NMC) that gives him control over where he lands next.
Despite being a 100-point player, he's growing older and his production could decline.
GM Patrik Allvin can speak about being "proactive and decisive" until he's blue in the face, but he's turned down Filip Chyti, and
Ryan Lindgren who could bolster the team in Vancouver.
Now, it's just all hot-air.
