This subject was brought up due to the recent death of former NHL are Greg Johnson who was diagnosed with CTE and then chose to take his own life. Campbell feels that this notion of learning how to fight could prompt Rempe to have and an increased risk to having CTE.
Rempe made his NHL debut this season and took the league by storm as he chose to fight many heavyweights throughout the NHL to prove to himself that he can be a force. After several boats, many across the NHL and their pundits felt that Rempe was taking it too far as he was losing fights and getting injured in the process.
During his first seventeen games of his NHL season, he collected 71 penalty minutes. Standing at six foot 7 and 241 lbs the 22-year-old vowed that he would work on his game during the offseason which apparently, he is as he is taking lessons from George Laraque.
Next season, it will be interesting on how head coach Peter Laviolette will deploy his enforcer as he has shown that he will put him in the press box, if necessary, to win the game. Fighting does have its place in the game however, where the game matters the most it's certainly not a penalty you want to take if it means a potential power play that could cost the team.
In the meantime, Rempe will continue his training and be ready for next season.
