It was reported earlier this evening that the New York Rangers may have Blake Wheeler in their roster as he is no longer registered on the injury reserve list.

The 37-year-old right winger was sidelined after suffering a terrible injury earlier on in February which many felt that would finish his season. Since then, not much has been made of his position up until recently when he was seen not in a noncontact jersey but in fact in full gear and in full practice earlier this week.

«He's full go at practice, but he's just recently gotten to this point,» Laviolette said. «We want to make sure he's in a position for success.»

The Rangers had hoped he would give the team a boost as he signed a low level contract for one season after spending twelve seasons with the Winnipeg Jets. He had played 54 games this season and scored nine goals with 12 assists for 21 points and was a + 2.

It's likely that if he does return to the Rangers lineup for the Eastern Conference final that head coach Peter laviolette would limit his minutes and put him in the bottom 6 to help give him time to get his legs back and his timing.

The Rangers are preparing for the Eastern Conference final as they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes last evening by a score of 5-3 and won the series in six games.
