There's been a report by Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast that should give New York Rangers fans hope.
Friedman was clear during the Podcast that Shesterkin would be willing to get a deal done with the Rangers if the money was right.
The Rangers made an offer to Shesterkin which had a contract total of $88 Million, which was reported by ESPN's Kevin Weekes.
Weekes reported that Shesterkin would shoot that offer down, and instead put his head down and bet on himself this season.
The Rangers are unafraid of going the extra mile to make sure that Shesterkin is the highest-paid goalie in the NHL, and their first contract offer proved that.
While there's been no lampooning of each other in the media, like what happened with Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins, the Rangers and Shesterkin's camps have kept it professional.
If Shesterkin gets a deal done soon, he'll be the highest-paid goalie in the NHL, as right now Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens currently makes $10.5 Million AAV per year.
It would be wise for the Rangers to lockdown Shesterkin for the foreseeable future, before he lands on another contending squads roster, like the Colorado Avalanche.
Shesterkin has provided reliable goaltending for the Rangers going on 6 seasons now since they handed the reigns from Henrik Lundqvist to Igor.
It may end up being the end of this Rangers core, but will the other superstars be willing to take the hometown discount, that Shesterkin wouldn't?
It seems that'd be the only way to keep Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and others in New York.
