Rangers need to sign Igor Shesterkin soon, or else they'll have to wait until next year

He helped take the Rangers to the Eastern Conference Finals, and of course, his goal is to win a Stanley Cup with the Rangers.

That is the goal of every NHLer, however, things could come to pass where if GM Chris Drury isn't able to lockdown Shesterkin long-term there could be consequences.

This means, he will have to begin negotiating at the $12 Million AAV, as was reported by Shesterkin's camp to a starting point and negotiate it to a team-friendly deal, if he can.

If he is the competent general manager, fans and the front office sell him as he should be able to make it work.

There have been discussions between the two camps, however, they don't see eye-to-eye, which is a natural part of negotiations.

GM Chris Drury is going to have to upsell the possibility of a future Stanley Cup championship to make the deal work for the team and to get Shesterkin to sign.

Otherwise, this could lead to disaster, as Shesterkin is already viewing these negotiations from the perspective of a free agent.

Which any smart NHL player, who is one of the best at what he does, would do!

Shesterkin has proven himself capable of bearing the load of a Stanley Cup contender, in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs he kept a Rangers team in games, they had no business being in.

He took them to a Game 6 against the Florida Panthers in the ECF.

So, Shesterkin obviously deserves a better payday, but he should be sold on building a better team, by taking less than $12 Million AAV.

In 55 games played last season, he went 36-17-2, with a 2.58 GAA, and a .913 SV%.
