One of those players will be reassigned to the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack, an indication that goalie Hugo Ollas won't be making it to the opening night roster this season.
The Rangers have reassigned Ollas to the Wolfpack, whose training camp begins next week on September 29th.
The 22-year-old goalie, appeared in 21 games with the NCAA's Merrimack College, with a 7-12-0 record, 2.84 GAA, and .908 save percentage.
Ollas spent three seasons in the NCAA with the Warriors, he accumulated a 27-27-0 record with a 2.48 GAA, a .914 save percentage, and six shutouts in 60 games.
Ollas signed his entry-level contract with the Rangers on March 15th, 2024, and would join the Wolfpack on an ATO.
It seems as if, the New York Rangers really have their choice of who will be in net, considering the solid tandem they had last season.
Ollas was selected 197th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft and only played 1 game with the Wolfpack in 2023-2024.
He posted a 4.00 GAA, and a .778 save percentage and would pull off a win somehow.
Ollas is a new prospect within the Rangers system and goalies like Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick ultimately are secure in their #1 and #2 spots in the season.
So it makes sense that GM Chris Drury would send Ollas back to the AHL in order to begin his minor-league hockey career, in the hopes one day he could provide good goaltending in a call-up situation.
He will likely serve as back-up to current Wolfpack goalie, Dylan Garand as well.
It sounds like he does have promise as a modern goalie though:
