Peter Laviolette shocks many as he calls out a certain aspect of Matt Rempe's game despite recent performance
New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette calls out a certain aspect of Matt Rempe's recent performance despite a clear improvement in the youngsters game.
Matt Rempe's recent performance has solidified himself a spot in the New York Rangers lineup, as he brings a much needed physical presence to the team, while making sure to not take costly penalties.
In a recent interview, Peter Laviolette revealed he has been happy with what he is seeing from the 22-year old forward. However, Laviolette pointed out one aspect of Rempe's game that he would like to see him improve on.
«I think he's done a good job,» Laviolette said about Rempe. «I would still like to see with the puck offensively. Just generating, simple mindset, get it on net, good stuff like that. He's come in and played pretty good defense and chipped in with some good physicality. I'd like to push that offensive boundary just a little bit.»
Ever since Rempe has reform his eight-game suspension, he has played in all 12 of the past matchups, and is likely to remain with the team for the remainder of the season, and maybe even the playoffs if the Rangers can secure a spot.
There's a certain confidence that Rempe has displayed over this stretch that we haven't seen from him since joining the Rangers.
In just 17 games played this season, Rempe has managed to tally 1 goals and 2 assists with a plus/minus of +5 while averaging 7:21 of ice time.
Ultimately, Laviolette is right as there is an element that the 22-year-old desperately needs to unlock, and once he does he will truly transform into a real threat.
