Rangers scratch of Matt Rempe has caused major controversy on the internet
In his place, Jonny Brodzinski was in the lineup, as he offered a depth scoring option for the Rangers. But this choice, wasn't exactly a popular choice for the team, as there's been an uproar over the healthy scratch.
The New York Post's Larry Brooks has reported on the controversy, as Rempe rode pine last night.
The controversy is of course, Brooks own doing, as Rempe is one of his favorite players and is claiming if it continues, it will alienate players and fans alike.
I don't get it.
I don't get it
I don't get why Big Matt Rempe is a healthy scratch for this game after getting seven shifts worth a sum of 3:40 in Saturday night's 6-5 OT defeat to Utah after having been scratched for last Wednesday's opener in Pittsburgh.
Listen, this is no disrespect directed at Jonny Brodzinski, who replaced Rempe in Games 1 and 3, or perhaps it is more accurate to suggest Rempe replaced Brodzinski for the home opener. Brodzinski is one of the best 750 hockey players in the world. He had an excellent camp.
But let me ask you: Which of these two players would present more of a threat to the Florida Panthers in the conference finals, or to the 2025 version of the Florida Panthers, because there's always a bigger, stronger, more physical opponent under the rainbow?
I don't get it.
I don't get this at all.
- Larry Brooks Brooks thinks that Laviolette and the Ranger shouldn't ice the most competitive lineup, in favor of drawing in, an incomplete Rempe.
Honestly, I get his frustration, but all the while the Rangers need to pull the trigger on where his development will lead next, whether it's the NHL or AHL temporarily.
He mentions that the Rangers should get their game plan in order for the playoffs, which are at best 6 months away. The Rangers aren't even in contention yet!
While we understand Brooks's passion, if the idea that scratching an NHL enforcer in game 3 of the regular season will have a negative impact in the post-season, the hypothesis is beyond ridiculous.
It's bonkers,
Brooks loves Rempe, which is all well and good, and who doesn't love the blood and guts that enforcers bring? But bringing a bottom-six scoring option NEVER hurts.
This is where we vehemently disagree with Brooks. The Rangers will be fine, and won 2 points last night.
