Wayne Gretzky talks about Rangers legend, Henrik Lundqvist, before his Hall of Fame induction and about his personal experience going into the HoF.
Take a listen:
Listening to Gretzky's perspective is insightful, especially for his kind words to Lundqvist.
King Henrik has given it his all for the 15 seasons he's played for the Rangers, the only thing missing on his illustrious career was a Stanley Cup championship, which by no means was his fault he never won it, nor do we hold it against him.
To be recognized and inducted into the Hall of Fame will be something special for Lundqvist, for his friends, family, and all the fans who have supported him throughout his career.
As for Gretzky, after his retirement in 1999, he was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, making him the most recent player to have the waiting period waived.
The NHL also retired his jersey number 99 league-wide. When you look at a resume as excellent as Gretzky's was, you can see why the league inducted him immediately.
The post game crew on TNT, where Gretzky serves as a studio analyst, also decided to poke a little fun at his outfit:
The comparison to Luke Skywalker from Return Of The Jedi is priceless!
Lundqvist will be inducted in the four-day celebration from November 10-13, 2023 in Toronto.
He will also be participating in his first game since 2020, in the Hyundai Legends Classic game Sunday, November 12.
