The goalie situation in Los Angeles has been unstable since the exit of Jonathan Quick, and recently Cam Talbot. The team has needed to fix the goaltending depth and what better start than to sign a starting goalie?

The Los Angeles Kings need a top goalie, as their only starting goalie is Darcy Keumper.
Kuemper, while a Stanley Cup-winning goalie has been fortunate to be a system goalie. He won a Cup in Colorado and 2021-2022 and has rode out the Stanley Cup tax into multiple starting jobs in the league.
But he's no Igor Shesterkin, and that is who GM Rob Blake and the Kings are after.
But do they have the cash to even contemplate signing the goalie?
The New York Rangers situation is untenable now, as the regular season has ramped up. Shesterkin recently stated he wouldn't negotiate with the team, while the Rangers are playing, it's ultimately him betting on himself.
This is after he turned down an $11 Million AAV contract, which would've made him the highest-paid goalie in the league.
Text from a source..." The Kings are working up a MEGA trade offer to the NY Rangers for Igor, They have dealt with goaltending issues, and they have been EXTREMELY open with their desire for Shesterkin....they would put an 8-year max extension on his plate.. Not calling this collusion, since teams talk to player agents in common with other team's players often and Shesterkin turning down the mega offer two days back is a good indication he knows there are teams out there who would go higher..."

It's been reported by Eklund of Hockey Buzz that the Kings could make a move for Shesterkin if the situation with the Rangers goes south.
The only question, we have about this is how are the Kings going to sign Shesterkin if at the moment they only have $10.2 Million in cap space, and Shesterkin will demand more.
Shesterkin is the real deal in New York, and has a 136-59-17 record in the net on Broadway, with a .921 save percentage during his career and a 2.42 GAA.
Not many teams can say they went so quickly from one franchise goaltender to another.
