Transaction: New York Rangers have just found Erik Gustafsson's replacement?
The New York Rangers just may have found an Erik Gustafsson's replacement.
The Rangers decided not to sign Erik Gustafsson to new a contract extension, which led him to walk in free agency and sign a deal with the Detroit Red Wings.
However, now the Rangers are looking for someone to fill that spot, and now a perfect candidate has just emerged.
Nate Schmidt of the Winnipeg Jets, who just had his final year of his contract bought out, making him available for any team to sign this year.
The 32-year old defenseman, is still up for grabs after day one of free agency.
Schmidt has had an impressive career so far, and he's not done yet and he could really bring some solid play to the Rangers bottom pair.
Then again the Rangers may expect to see more of Zachary Jones in the lineup next year to also help fill that void, but then again that hasn't really worked out for them.
Regardless if they decide to let jones step up, Schmidt is still a solid players for the Rangers to have when needed.
