Transaction: Rangers to reunite with former player during free agency
News broke yesterday at St Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong has told the league that Blues forward Samuel Blais will be available to test unrestricted free agency.
The 28-year-old winger, who was a Ranger for two seasons between 2021 and 2023, was working off a one-year deal worth $1 million with the Blues and appears to be ready to try unrestricted free agency. During this season, he played 53 games and had one goal with six assists for seven points and had 31 penalty minutes.
Coming in as a depth forward with this low cost, would certainly be attractive to general manager Chris Drury who is currently looking on ways to improve the Rangers lineup after their disappointing loss in the Eastern Conference final to the Florida Panthers.
The Rangers are currently moving some money around as they had put Barclay Goodrow on waivers yesterday afternoon and if cleared or taken, would clear up $3.6 million in cap space. Having Blais return to the team could be beneficial.
