A trade proposed by Peter Baugh from the athletic explains that the Rangers could send Jacob trouba to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Justin Holl.

This proposal is designed to help give cap relief to the Rangers as they currently sit around $9 million for the remainder of this offseason. Even though the team went to the Eastern Conference final, questions are surfacing across pundits and fans on how the Rangers can improve their roster with such little money available to spend.

This trade would see Holl and his $3.4 million for another two seasons come to the Rangers and then be bought out at a much lower cap hit. In return, the Red Wings would acquire a defenseman who still can play at a high level and would give their defence core a much-needed boost.

Trouba, holds a cap hit of $8 million per season and is 30 years old.
The likelihood of this trade is quite unlikely as the Rangers would be required to eat some of this salary which would be counterproductive to what they're trying to do.

There's also the possibility of buying out Trouba which would create a $4 million cap relief for the team which would push them to $13 million in cap space.

The Rangers would hold a $2,000,000 dead space hit from 2026 through 2028. It seems the team will need to be patient and continue to weigh their options on how to improve their cap relief situation and there'd be many factors to make a deal happen.
