The Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov has been suspended by the IIHF (Ice Hockey World Championship). The Goalie has been suspended for a total of three years for international play including the Olympics. Penalties for Fedotov and his KHL club (A global tournament created to further the evolution of hockey in every part of Russia and other nations across Europe and Asia.) break his agreement with his entry level contract with the Flyers.
Fedotov also gets a six month ban from club level if he decides to leave the NHL. CSKA (Russian professional ice hockey club based in Moscow. The club is a member of the Tarasov Division in the Kontinental Hockey League) Moscow is now forbidden from international transfers for 2 years (from 8/11/24 to 8/10/26) and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation has been fined 1 million francs ($1.1 million USD).
Fans in the comment session seemed to be confused as to what exactly happened and began today that they thought it was dumb to fine someone for being Russian. Other fans seem to already know more information than this post could provide.
To Clarify Fedotov was drafted by the Flyers after the season ended and he later signed another contract to play for the CSKA while still being under contract with the Flyers which isn't allowed and now he's been suspended. Yikes, what will happen moving forward? Only Fedotov can decide but I would not want to be the Flyers right now as it could mean they may need a new goal tender for the rest of the 2024 season. I guess we will have to wait and see what decisions are made moving forward.
