The Battle of Ontario has had its share of skirmishes over the years as the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators never disappoint their fans when these two clash.

Tonight's game wasn't different when the Maple Leafs were in the Canadian Tire centre and there was a sense of anger building between the two teams.

In the dying seconds of the third period, the Senators were holding a 4-3 lead, the puck broke through the zone and was sliding down into the Toronto end with their goalie out.

Senators rookie Greig Ridly chose to do an emphatic slapshot into an empty net which drew the anger of Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly.

Rielly, went straight to Ridly and gave him a crosscheck to his head. Ridly fell quickly to the ice holding his head while the Ottawa Senators tried to get at Rielly.

The star Maple Leafs defenceman received a 5-minute major for cross checking and 10-minute game misconduct.

It remains to be seen on whether he will receive supplementary discipline as most people feel he will, and it will depend on how many games he might get or face a fine from the NHL office of Players Safety.

I will leave you with two questions.

Was Ridly wrong to do his slapshot in an open net? Was Rielly wrong in how he reacted to the goal being scored?
