The Toronto Maple Leafs and John Tavares could part ways when he becomes a UFA. After being stripped of the Captaincy the door for Tavares is halfway out the door already.

Could GM Chris Drury and the Rangers find a way to lure Tavares back to New York?
Wayne Gretzky found his way to Broadway after supposedly being a "lifetime Oiler" and found it irresistible.
Mark Messier, another "lifetime Oilers" loved it in New York as well, winning a Stanley Cup here.
As the Maple Leafs seek to move on from Tavares's cap hit, his lack of ability to help push the team to a Stanley Cup, and as his contract expires in 2024-2025, could he find his way on the Rangers lineup?
"I'm just not sure whether the Rangers would be the best fit," Del Mundo tells me.

Who's to say he's not a fit? The Rangers have signed players like Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane, who weren't the best fits either.
How would it sound when Tavares as a Ranger enters UBS Arena in a Blueshirt? Taking a faceoff? The aggression from fans would be mind-blowing.
How would Islanders fans feel?
"Honestly," Leboff insists, "I'd almost respect him a little more if he did that and signed with the Blueshirts if he really leaned into being a villain. Sports is all about good vs. evil and you need folks to wear the black hat.

"So, if Tavares did that. I'd give him credit for taking things to the next level." Then, a pause: "But it also would take my hatred for him to a new level!"

And Patrick Hoffman, a Hockey Columnist offered his opinion on Tavares, and it's not so great:
Hoffman: "While I respect Tavares as a person, the Rangers do not need him nor should they want him. Yes, he can produce, but he does not know how to win and has thus far failed with both the Islanders and Leafs."

Then a pause, not unlike Mike Leboff's: "As such, that would be a huge NO for me!"

So, would you want to see Tavares in a Blueshirt? Yes or no?
