NHL Alumni announce former NHL defenseman Larry Trader has passed away at 61-years old

The NHL Alumni have released some saddening news as former NHL defenseman, Larry Trader has passed away.

Thursday morning the National Hockey League has announced that former Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens defenceman Larry Trader has passed away at the age of 61.

Trader was originally drafted in the fifth-round by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft and played 55 games with the Red Wings during the 1982-83 and 1984-85 seasons.

After he left the Red Wings, he joined the St. Louis Blues where he only managed to play six games throughout two seasons before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens during the 1987-88 season.

The following is a statement from the NHL Alumni Association:

»The NHL Alumni Association is saddened to learn that Larry Trader has passed away at the age of 61.

Larry was drafted in the 5th round of the 1981 Entry Draft to the @DetroitRedWings. He played two seasons with the team before moving on to the @StLouisBlues, and finishing his NHL career with the @CanadiensMTL. In total, Larry played in 91 regular-season games, scoring 18 points.

Trader's hockey career also took him to the OHL, AHL (where he won the Calder Cup with the Adirondack Red Wings), Austria, and Italy before his retirement where he coached teams in Ontario, Canada.

Larry was loved by all those who met him, with his positive energy and quick wit, he could make anyone smile.
