The NHL Alumni announced a heartbreaking tribute on Wednesday revealing the tragic passing of former NHL player Miika Elomo who passed away at 47-years old.

Here's what the NHL Alumni Association had to say on the passing of Miika Elomo:
The NHL Alumni Association is heartbroken to learn that Miika Elomo has passed away at the age of 47.

Miika was selected 23rd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft after an impressive junior hockey career with the TPS program in his hometown of Turku, Finland.

On October 16, 1999, Miika made his NHL debut for the Capitals and three days later, on October 19, he recorded an assist on a 3rd-period Capitals goal. His first and only NHL point.

After playing the remainder of the 1999-2000 season with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, Miika would play one more season in North America, where he would capture the Calder Cup with the AHL's Saint John Flames in the spring of 2001.

For the 2001-02 season, Miika split time between TPS and the Espoo Blues of SM-liiga, Finland's top professional hockey league. He remained with the Blues until the conclusion of the 2004-05 season when he retired from professional hockey.

In 2012, Miika began his coaching career in a Finnish junior league. His passion for coaching took him throughout Finland, Norway, Poland, and finally to France, where he coached the last two seasons.

All who knew Miika will remember his dedication and excitement about coaching hockey players of all ages.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Miika's family, friends, and teammates during this challenging time.
Truly a tragic moments, and on behalf of everyone here at NY Rangers Insider we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Elomo as they navigate through this difficult time.
May you Rest in Peace Elomo.
