Sad news strikes the hockey community as former Russian professional hockey player, Yegor Sorokin has sadly passed away at the young age of 27-years old.

The tragic news of Sorolin's passing has reached North America due to social media platforms, especially Instagram as an hockey named ''Hockey Worldwide'' shared this news, along with expressing their condolences to his family.

Sorokin played throughout many Russian hockey leagues but was never drafted to the NHL, and sadly never made it to the KHL either, the top league in Russia. However, he managed to play in the VHL, a league that's equivalent to the AHL. Both the AHL and VHL serve as a second-tier league and development league before the big leagues like the NHL and KHL. Sorokin spent 6 seasons on the league and made appearances in 92 career games.

Sorokin was a player who was known for his offensive capabilities as he registered 4 goals and 9 points in those games. Along with a pretty impressive junior career as he appeared in 204 career games at the MHL level. This league is equivalent to the CHL or USHL. Throughout his time in this league he managed to record 9 goals and 46 assists for a total of 55 points.

There has been no reports on whether or not if he's related to the New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin.

On behalf of everyone here at NY Rangers Insider we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Yegor Sorokin, during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
