32 Thoughts podcaster and Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman predicted that Igor Shesterkin's new contract extension is imminent.

He felt confident that the Rangers and Shesterkin's camp are on the same page and would like to wrap this up as soon as possible.

«I believe it's going to work out," Friedman said. "I think the Rangers have made the choice that they're going to pay him and, to me, it just comes down to what the numbers going to be. Until I'm told otherwise, I expect them to work out. Work it out. I believe the Rangers have made their choice here.»
Rumors have been flying around the web that the Rangers netminder will become the highest paid goaltender in NHL history. Many feel that he will be north of $11 million per season as the highest paid goaltender was Carey price formerly of the Montreal Canadiens.
Yesterday the Boston Bruins resolved their goaltending drama as Jeremy Swayman signed his new deal which cost the Bruins $$66 million and holds a cap hit of 8.25 million AAV for eight years. It's likely Shesterkin will receive the eight-year term But the number is still not determined.
Earlier this summer it was revealed there was a deadline for the Rangers as Shesterkin would not make a deal during the regular season. In my opinion, if the Rangers and his camp are on the same page as it suggested, it's likely both parties will ignore that soft deadline and strike a deal to closeout these negotiations.
The Rangers will begin their season on Wednesday October 9th as they are on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game time will be 7:30 PM eastern.
