It appears that the New York Rangers are linked to several forwards including Pittsburgh Penguins' Rickard Rakell.
Vincent Mercogliano of Lohud feels that the Rangers are highly interested in Rakell as the Penguins are preparing to sell off some of their assets to become more competitive and potentially retool their team.
Rakell would give Rangers offense a boost
«At RW, Pittsburgh's Rickard Rakell ($5 million AAV through 2027-28) could be one of the best scorers on the market with 48 points (25 goals and 23 assists) through 56 games. He played on a line with
Mika Zibanejad for Team Sweden, as well, if that counts for anything,» Mercogliano wrote.
The Rangers are looking for secondary scoring as the team is attempting to find a way back into the playoff picture as the team currently sits just outside the wild card.
Mercogliano also revealed other players including
Scott Laughton of the Philadelphia Flyers and Ryan O'Reilly of the Nashville Predators who could be all available for the right price.
«Center may be the toughest to snag, because everyone wants one and few are available. Philadelphia's Scott Laughton ($3 million AAV through next season) is a player the Rangers have had previous interest in,» Mercogliano added.»But the Flyers' asking price is said to be high. Some also point to Nashville, where battle-tested veteran Ryan O'Reilly ($4.5M AAV through 2026-27) may be on the block.» Vincent Mercogliano
Rangers are looking for term with new players
Rangers General manager Chris Drury is attempting to remould and remodel his team as he has made several trades throughout the year.
The former Rangers captain has not been satisfied with his team's performance, and it's look, and he has felt changes are necessary which he has continued.
The Rangers are looking for players who have term and not deemed as a rental as they're currently only four points out of a playoff spot, the Rangers would need players who would remain a few years after the trade is made.
The team is also not ready to call up significant assets from the Hartford Wolf Pack as the team and organization continues to develop their talent.
Drury wants to remain competitive while making his changes and adding players with term but certainly take care of those needs.
With the trade deadline set for March 7th at 3:00 PM, many Rangers fans will sit in wait to see what he has in store and what changes will come for the final stretch of the season.
