Elliotte Friedman confirms the New York Rangers can acquire a solid defenseman for free

The New York Rangers have affordable depth options to add to the lineup with the latest waiver wire news today. GM Chris Drury will have to decide whether or not he likes affordable 3rd and 4th line options.
The New York Rangers could find a way to utilize some of the players who were placed on waivers today.
Two of them, the Rangers could find a spot for them in the lineup.

Puljujarvi is off the market, as GM Bill Zito made quick work of the depth forward who will once again get a fresh start in a new market.
Where Do the Rangers Fit In?
Who should GM Chris Drury consider signing?
The Rangers look thin on defense and could find a way to fit Jordan Oesterle who was a part of the Bruins organization until he was placed on waivers today.
Oesterle has served as a depth defenseman for the Calgary Wranglers for the majority of the season, playing 52 games in the AHL, scoring 11 points for the team (2 G, 9 A).
With K'Andre Miller and Adam Fox out, it'd be wise to stack depth options in preparation for injuries that never seem to stop.
The team could find a way to fit Jakub Vrana underneath the cap as a depth option in the forward core.
Especially since Chris Kreider is out on IR, he'd be another winger who could get a fresh start in New York.
And is a known goal-scorer in the NHL.
While he's not the same sniper he was back with the Washington Capitals, you never know when players like Vrana go on a streak again.
Vrana has scored 11 points (7 G, 4 A) in 26 games with the Capitals, and could be a solid third-line addition.
