New York Rangers biggest divisional rivals head coach receives major fine following unprofessional conduct
Breaking news in the NHL as New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe received $25,000 for actions directed at officials.
According to the NHL, New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe has been fined $25,000 for unprofessional conduct directed at the officials that resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct bench minor as well as a game misconduct at 18:12 of the third period of NHL Game No. 966 on Sunday, March 2, the National Hockey League announced today.
I have to admit, this one is a little surprising.
Although NHL coaches have been known to fly off the handles from time-to-time, Sheldon Keefe has never been that kind of guy.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe slapped by the NHL
During a game on March 2nd, the New Jersey Devils took on the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Although the New Jersey Devils have been performing at a decent rate this season, the Golden Knights kept them at bay for the whole game, shutting the Devils out by a score of 2-0.
According to SI, the team's top center,
Jack Hughes, sustained an upper-body injury that forced him to exit. Following the play, Keefe was animated and fired up. The play resulted in no penalties, and the Devils' head coach was visibly upset. The officials ultimately assessed the Devils with a bench penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected Keefe from the game.
Understandably, Sheldon Keefe was hot.
His emotions even boiled over to his post game press conference, where the Devils head coach highlighted his displeasure with the non-call on his star forward.
While this comes as a significant blow to the New Jersey Devils, the injury to Jack Hughes presents a massive opportunity for the Rangers to gain traction in the Metropolitan Division.
