In what would've surprised no one, is that GMs Steve Yzerman and Chris Drury attempted another trade. Instead of the piece being Jacob Trouba, this time it was defenseman Ryan Lindgren.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Red Wings are looking into addressing issues with their lineup.
With Andrew Copp and Michael Rasmussen out they're looking for forwards, and they also need help on the blueline
Friedman:
«I think (Yzerman) has been looking for a defenseman - uh, I think I think he was looking at Lindgren.. Believe me if i'm wrong i'm gonna hear about this I think he was looking at Lindgren and I think he also and some interest in other guys that were out there like Will Borgen kinda guys I think he's been looking at that.

It is surprising that we heard nothing about this, as the Red Wing blue line isn't the best by any means.
The Red Wings defenseman is basically held together by duct tape at this point, as there are more younger players in the lineup who haven't matured, and other veterans who are underperforming at the moment.
Other than Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson, who is there in Detroit?
Ben Chiarot arguably rode one good season into Detroit, while Justin Holl, is well Justin Holl.
Anyone who watched a Maple Leafs game knows his story.
It makes absolutely no sense to the naked eye why Yzerman didn't make Lindgren a part of his Yzerplan.
Lindgren in his prime was a solid top-pairing defenseman who could shelter someone like Seider.
Who knows maybe even a fresh start could kickstart his career again. Instead of Detroit, he'll get it in Colorado now.
They could've absolutely fit him underneath the cap.
the Red Wings currently have around $12 million in cap space, with about $13.5 million in deadline cap space (that's the amount the team can actually fit on trade deadline day,

Lindgren has played his last 54 NHL games in a blue shirt and scored 19 points (2 G, 17 A) and will now wear Avalanche colors instead.
