An unexpected goaltender has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, with the NHL regular season starting in just a week.

On Friday it was announced that Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jack Campbell has entered the NHL/NHLPA Players Assistance Program amidst a lot of drama.

Throughout the last few seasons Campbell has been the centre of drama after signing a five-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers, and only playing in two out of the five years as and the Oilers bought him out this year.

Campbell was looking to bounce back this year after spending most of the last-season in the AHL. As he signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, but ultimately decided that he will be entering the NHLPA Players Assistance Program.

During Campbell's 11-years in league he had played 176 games and posted a record of 93-52-18, with a 2.76 GAA, and a .909 save percentage.

Although Jack Campbell couldn't live up to the expectations that the Edmonton Oilers singed him to, it's tough to see someone go through this. Entering the program usually means something is seriously bothering him, and he needs help and support, so it's tough not to feel bad for the guy.

We hope that everything is okay with Jack Campbell, and that he returns to the NHL sooner rather than later, whenever he is ready to do so.
