The New York Rangers are on the verge of trading their captain, Jacob Trouba.

Earlier this morning, reports started to surfaces that the Rangers and Detroit Red Wings were closing in on an agreement.

The report came from Larry Brooks of the New York Post that the two teams are in advance trade talks:

"Indeed, a well-placed source has told The Post thatGM Chris Drury is working on a deal to send the captain (Trouba) toa trade that the Michigan native would presumably accept after having played as a freshman for the Wolverines in 2012-13.»

Oh the other hand, there has been zero reports on who the Rangers would exchange for or if there will be any salary retained.

Trouba still has two more seasons at $8 million with the Rangers and will submit a 15-team no-trade list on July 1st. Detroit seems like the right place for Trouba considering he's a native of Rochester, Michigan and even spent one year at the University of Michigan.

The Rangers are desperately looking to re-tool and spend more money on a forward who's more impactful, leading Trouba to be a significant candidate this offseason.

However the Red Wings have already freed up some salary cap space with a recent move that sent Jake Walman to the San Jose Sharks and GM Steve Yzerman is looking to add some upgrades to his roster.

If the Red Wings want to massive step forward next season, Jacob Trouba would definitely be the perfect #2 right-hand defenseman.
