A late night trade involving the Edmonton Oilers and the New York Rangers biggest rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers has taken many by surprise.

During a recent game on Monday between the New Jersey Devils and the Edmonton Oilers, the Philadelphia Flyers announced they made a trade with the Oilers. Philadelphia acquired defenseman Ben Gleason, while the Oilers will receive defenseman Ronnie Attard.

TRADE ALERT: We have acquired defenseman Ben Gleason from Edmonton in exchange for defenseman Ronnie Attard.

The #Oilers have acquired defenceman Ronnie Attard from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenceman Ben Gleason.

25-year old defenseman, Attard, was originally drafted 72nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2019 NHL Entey Draft. The youngster has some basic NHL experience, as he managed to play 29 games over the last three seasons with the Flyers, while doing so he tallied two goals and four assists.

On the other side of deal, Gleason hasn't played in the NHL since the 2018-19 season, when he played in four games for the Dallas Stars. Gleason also entered the league undrafted, signing with Dallas as a free agent in 2018. Then Gleason proceeded to sign with Edmonton in July 2023 but hasn't played a game for them.

However, It wasn't the trade itself that shocked many throughout the hockey community, it was the fact that the Flyer and Oilers completed this trade while the Oilers were in a middle of a game, and it's not everyday we see trades go down this early in the season.

Who do you think won this trade? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to NY Rangers Insider for the latest news and updates on the New York Rangers.
