All the while, GM Eric Tulsky has stated that the team wants star power in return for Martin Necas.
Which it seems, could put GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers out of the running for the star forward.
Necas, a 25-year-old forward who will be coming into his 6th season in the NHL in 2024-2025, is a player many teams are after to plug holes in their top-six role.
He has played 362 games in the NHL, scoring 243 points( 97 G, 146 A) and set career highs when in 2022-2023 he scored 71 points in 82 games.
He did take a stepback this season, with limited ice time, scoring 53 points( 24 G, 29 A) and along with his father has publicly stated he wants a new situation in the NHL.
According to LeBrun, the cost may be too high for Necas, so many teams could end up offer-sheeting the young forward:
If GM Chris Drury would offer-sheet Martin Necas, it would ultimately be a boon for the team and repair a flawed top 1st line, with Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad.
However, they would receive a 1st round, 2nd round and 3rd round pick(s) in compensation for the forward.
Which for a New York Rangers team in flux, is an issue.
The team doesn't even own their 2nd or 3rd round draft picks until 2026 at the earliest. So, it appears Necas isn't a long-term solution for the Blueshirts.
