Frank Seravalli states that in the past the Sabres coach had stated that he wasn't around for the past thirteen years before taking on the role of head coach for the Sabres and that he couldn't be held accountable for anything up until that point but now Adams will be heading into year five with the Sabres and Seravalli wants to know what has changed or what can be expected for Buffalo's future since the Sabres have had a playoff drought. Seravalli wants to know if Adams feels that pressure now to help the team make the playoffs next season.
Adams went on to respond by saying that he did understand the urgency of the organization and the fan base and that he thought they had done a great job of obtaining prospects and setting the team up for success for the foreseeable future and that now was the time to move into the next phase of their game plan to be able to make it to the playoffs. Adams stated that while he understood what the fans wanted and needed as well as the organization that he would not let voices deviate him from the plan he had for the team.
While it is understandable that Adams should not break or bend to peer pressure so to speak from the way he answered the question it sounds like he has no interest at all in moving the team into the next phase and if he does he clearly doesn't have a solid plan to do so. Adams sounds like Pat Verbeek of the Anaheim Ducks who continues to promise better things and change is not happening at all in Anaheim and it can be very frustrating for long time fans. I do not think this is fair to both the Anaheim Ducks or the Buffalo Sabres. In my opinion, it is time to follow suit just like the other teams have done(Devils, Kraken, Sharks) and look for a new head coach or general manager if it means that the organization, fans and team will benefit from the move.
