It was a tough situation for the New York Rangers last night when the team lost Blake Wheeler to a serious leg injury when they played the Montreal Canadiens.
The injury occurred when Wheeler fell backwards, and his right leg turned in an awkward angle as he took a hit by Montreal defenseman Jayden Struble.
The team is currently evaluating Wheeler's injury and are unsure how long he will be out of the lineup.
With this injury, the Rangers decided to promote 21-year-old Matt Rempe from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The six foot seven 241 LB centre was drafted by the Rangers in 2020 in the sixth round, 165th overall.
His large size gives him a physical advantage it will help the Rangers in their bottom 6 and the penalty kill.
Rempe has played 43 games for the Wolf Pack and has scored eight goals, 4 assists for 12 points and has 96 penalty minutes.
The Rangers next game will be against the New York Islanders on Sunday February 18th.
Game time will be 3:00 PM eastern.
