According to fans, the Rangers should consider a buyout for Captain Jacob Trouba, whose leadership didn't get the Blueshirts far.
His hefty contract at $8 Million AAV, over 7 years leaves a bad taste in any GM's mouth. It seems unlikely that the Rangers could find a trading partner for the contract, let alone a decent return.
With CapFriendly's buyout tool, the Rangers could save money with a buyout of Trouba's contract. This would result in a lower cap hit of $4 Million over the next two seasons, while a cap hit of $2 Million in the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons.
After a career year in Winnipeg, posting 50 points, the Rangers immediately signed Trouba to a $56 Million deal, and would ultimately regret it.
He would never again attain that kind of production in New York, as it would drop drastically, by half-even.
Even though in 2021-2022 he did come close, with an 11-goal, 39-point season with a +25. But this season his abilities need work or worse he is in decline as he had trouble moving the puck out of his zone and preventing zone entries as well.
He only registered 3 goals and 22 points in 69 games with the Rangers this season, with a -4. Against the Panthers he was a dismal -3 and it included three straight losses which lead to an elimination from the playoffs.
With a 15-team NTC, a buyout may be what Chris Drury will have to use in order to move on from Trouba.
