The Carolina Hurricanes have had to place Jesper Fast on LTIR. Fast had to have neck surgery in August 2024 which meant it was unlikely that he'd play during the 2024-2025 regular season.

The former New York Rangers forward played 73 games for the Canes last season, scoring 19 points( 6 G, 13 A).
Fast began the week, with the Canes placing him on the non-roster list, and has since been placed on the LTIR.
This will give the Hurricanes some breathing room, as before they only had $3 in cap space.
Now according to PuckPedia, they have a total of $2.35 Million in cap space to work with now.
Fast has been replaced in the Hurricanes lineup by William Carrier, who was signed to a six-year, $12 Million contract in free agency.
Fast (neck) was shifted to long-term injured reserve Wednesday, per PuckPedia.

Fast's placement on LTIR was just a matter of timing based on when the Hurricanes could secure the most cap relief. The veteran winger will not be playing this season due to his long-term neck injury. Unfortunately for Fast, that means he will head into free agency this summer without having played in over a year.

Jesper Fast was drafted 157th overall in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Draft and joined the New York Rangers to start his NHL career in 2013.
The Rangers coincidentally enough traded defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti for the draft pick which would be used to select Fast.
Fast split his first season between AHL Hartford playing 48 games with the Wolfpack, scoring 34 points( 17 G, 17 A), and 11 games with the New York Rangers his first season of professional hockey.
