There's been discussion of a retirement regarding former New York Rangers defenseman,Kevin Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk is age 35, and last played for the Boston Bruins during the 2023-2024 season.

Shattenkirk has, fortunately, reached the epoch of his career once, in 2020 winning the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

While the Boston Bruins wouldn't offer the two-way defenseman a contract for the 2024-2025 season, there was speculation where he'd end up.

But now it seems he's on the cusp of retiring from the NHL, what's even more curious about his decision is that he may have turned down a contract office from an NHL team in the Western Conference.

Maybe it was the location, or the team itself, but according to New York Post reporter Larry Brooks, it could've been Edmonton, Calgary, or Vancouver whom he turned down recently.

Shattenkirk played 61 games with the Bruins last season under Jim Montgomery, scoring 24 points( 6 G, 18 A) providing a stabilizing presence on the blueline for the Bruins, now missing with recent additions.

But Slap Shots has learned from a trusted source that the one-time Blueshirts No. 22 rejected an offer from a western Canadian team - Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver - within the past two weeks.

Elliotte Friedman himself recently addressed this 2 days ago:

Among those players looking the Oilers way is veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who has expressed interest in discussing a potential move to Edmonton if the team is looking for defensive depth.

Was it a fact of the matter that Edmonton wouldn't be able to pay him enough, given they only have $1 Million in cap space, with Stan Bowman's recent spending sprees?

Or was he just not confident in the team after discussing his goals with Jeff Jackson and Stan Bowman?

Regardless, he had a great career in the NHL, which began with the Colorado Avalanche in 2010-2011.

Which makes it more likely than not that Shattenkirk will end his career after 952 games unless a perfect scenario arises.

In 952 games Shattenkirk scored 484 points(103 G, 381 A) split between the Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Boston Bruins.
