The New York Rangers arguably lost face when they waived waived veteran forward Barclay Goodrow against his will.

Instead of letting a trade to San Jose move forward, he exercised a no-trade clause That he had on his contract.

The situation escalated when GM Chris Drury would go outside of the contract, to waive him and enable the San Jose Sharks Mike Grier to claim him during free agency.

The move wasn't a good look, as it shows you how ruthless some GMs in the NHL can be.

He returns to Madison Square Garden tomorrow with a chip on his shoulder, and with his old-but-new squad the San Jose Sharks.

You have to move on," Goodrow said. "It comes with the territory of this job. There's nothing you can do but put your head down and keep working."

Now, instead of preparing for another Stanley Cup run he's taken on a leadership role in San Jose.

According to THW's Lucas Standel, Goodrow's time was finished in New York, as he wasn't fitting with Laviolette's conception of the team.

The reason he worked so well in Tampa Bay was that he played a role that suited his style. He was on a shut-down third line that played hard and physical, facing the opposition's top lines. His line could also score if needed. Goodrow never had that same line in New York and was never as effective as he was with the Lightning. The Rangers asked too much of him at times, and it backfired.

With his absence, the Rangers have been able to give Will Cuylle more responsibility on the ice.

With the Sharks, Goodrow has found his way onto the 1st line with Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli.

He'll come into MSG with purpose, and the Sharks have nothing to lose as there are no expectations for the team this season.

The Rangers will have to play their best game, as Goodrow obviously smells blood in the water.
