Gary Bettman has officially reached a final verdict on the Rangers alleged tampering situation
It was announced earlier in the year, that the NHL would be investigating accusations of tampering. Now it appears the National Hockey League has reached a finally verdict regarding the alleged allegations of the New York Rangers «soft tampering» with player.
Recently The NHL looked into tampering regarding Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Bertuzzi, and his four-year, $22 Million dollar contract.
There were eyebrows raised during interviews, as he mentioned that Captain Nick Foligno discussed the opportunity to come to Chicago prior to free agency opening.
What isn't expected is the kind of punishment to be doled out to the Blackhawks, or Bertuzzi as consequences could be severe.
Instead, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has let us know, that there are no investigations ongoing in the league currently. Which would mean the league doesn't see any tampering issues with the latest rumours involving the Rangers and Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.
Friedman mentioned that the league would pay closer attention to certain conversations between players to determine whether they were casual, or actual negotiations that broke protocols.
According to Friedman neither conversation detailed contract negotiations, so tampering didn't occur between the Rangers and Brady Tkachuk.
Tampering would entail a team using leverage to induce a player to sign a deal with them.
As Friedman pointed out, it's not that this sort of situation doesn't happen. It's just that the league doesn't want to make it too obvious. In fact, Friedman makes a good argument insofar as players needing time to process information and offers before deciding on career and life-altering proposals.
It officially looks like the New York Rangers are free of any further repercussions from the NHL as they never tampered with Brady Tkachuk.
