Even with Jimmy Vesey out of the lineup, Matt Rempe has had difficulty cracking a spot in the lineup with tight competition from players like Jonny Brodzinski, and Adam Edstrom.
Last night it was announced that Rempe would be an extra, as Adam Edstrom took the LW4 spot in the lineup, in place of Vesey.
Rempe wouldn't get another look as he would only play 2 games this season and didn't contribute any offense during his short time playing for the Rangers this season.
Instead, he's been sent down to the AHL, where he'll go back to develop as a player.
Peter Laviolette feels that Rempe would benefit most from seeing time in the AHL, rather than riding pine in the press box:
Rempe's own inability to outplay someone like Jonny Brodzinski led to the Calgary-born enforcer being sent back down to get more seasoning in the AHL:
Honestly, isn't a bad idea as much as we love the entertainment of fighting that Rempe brings, if he wants to excel as a well-rounded player in the NHL he'll take advantage of this chance to learn.
He can utilize all of the skills he's honed during the offseason, and put together some highlight plays and maybe the Rangers could afford to bring him up in the bigs again.
Until then, the Rangers run a tight four-line offense and Rempe unfortunately wasn't a big part of it.
