Life changing event forces player to rush to the hospital following Rangers vs Canucks game
The Vancouver Canucks took on the New York Rangers last night, and the Rangers handily defeated the Tocchet-led Canucks, 4-3.
After the game, Canucks forward Conor Garland had to be rushed to the hospital despite being, the fact he made it through the game being on "baby watch".
Not only was he an expecting father, but he posted a goal that night.
The goal tied the game, 2-2 in the second period amidst the notion that he may have to exit the match at any point.
Conor Garland played over 20 minutes and scored a crucial goal to tie the game at 3-3. He also drew two penalties and created power-play chances for the Canucks. Garland has 14 points in 18 games and is on pace for a career-high 63 points.
Not only did he have to rush to the hospital , but his coach Rick Tocchet gave him a compliment on his play that night.
"He's gonna probably have a baby here soon. Was up at 3 in the morning. Was up again at 7. No sleep, and he was our best player. What can you say? You love the kid." Tocchet said.
Conor Garland rushes to the hospital
Garland would exit Rogers Arena right away after the Rangers match in order to be with his wife, Meghan.
"Garland spent much of the day with her and it was questionable whether he would suit up for the contest. He managed to play in the game before rushing back to the hospital right after the final whistle." Strang said.
Noah Strang mentioned that Garland had been with her at the hospital during the day and he wasn't sure he'd suit up that night. But nevertheless, he did his best that night.
Garland's found himself as a fixture on the team's top six this season and has scored 14 points(5 G, 9 A) in 18 games this season.
The Massachusettes-born forward has found his new home in Vancouver and is in his 5th season with the Canucks.
