Arthur Staple who covers the Rangers for The Athletic, has an update on the status of defenseman Jacob Trouba.
While GM Chris Drury was attempting to move the defenseman, Jacob Trouba had a 15-team modified NTC.
He blocked a trade to the Detroit Red Wings, while multiple teams were interested in his services.
No trade materialized as he exercised his right to block one.
However, when 2025-2026 rolls around the 15-team no-trade list, will be reduced to 12. While the movement is a fact of life for many athletes he didn't want to uproot his family, while his wife is in the middle of a life-changing residency in New York.
His contract next year will likely be more palatable for many NHL teams, with a $8M AAV, one year term left.
With players to sign such as Alexis Lafreniere, K'Andre Miller, and Igor Shesterkin to sign next year, the Rangers will need to clear $8 Million off the cap to have that kind of flexibility.
Drury successfully got Barclay Goodrow's contract off the books waiving the forward, but he will need to do more in order to make sure to sign the new core in Miller, Lafreniere, and Shesterkin.
