The New York Rangers have much to smile about over the past couple of weeks which includes a turn around in their season and signing new defenseman will Borgen to a five year contract worth $4.1 million per season.
Borgen comfortable with making five-year commitment with the Rangers
He spoke to the media giving his take on what it was like to sign this deal fairly quickly and also his view on the city and the team itself with the organization.
«Pretty quickly,» Borgen said about when he knew he wanted to stay in New York long term. «Once I got settled into the place and got used to everything, it was nothing but great. I like the city a lot, the guys here are great, the organization, everything's just been great, it's been fun to play here.» - Will Borgen
The 28-year-old defenseman was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres back in 2015, in the fourth round, 92nd overall. He had spent two seasons with the Sabres and then was chosen by the Kraken during the 2022 expansion draft where he has played there for four seasons.
In his short time with the Rangers, he has played eighteen games, scored two goals with two assists for four points and as a - 1 which is a far better number than his -13 with the Kraken earlier this season.
«It was a no-brainer for me,» Borgen said. «It was really exciting. Got some security. Going to be here, an original six team for the next five years and I'm just really looking forward to it.» - Will Borgen
He also spoke about the notion of playing in Madison Square Garden and for this original six franchise certainly has caught him in a positive way.
«It's the best,» Borgen said about playing at Madison Square Garden. «It was always my favorite rink to come and play in. It's always loud, energetic and every single time you get to play in there, it's awesome.»- Will Borgen
Borgen will now get a chance to help the Rangers get back into the playoff picture as the team continues to surge in the standings and only remain one to two points behind in the wild card.
