New York Rangers divisional rivals have relieved head coach Kevin Dineen of his duties
New York Rangers divisional rivals has announced that they have parted ways with their head coach Kevin Dineen of their AHL affiliate team, after a brutal start of the season.
The New Jersey Devils have high hopes of making a playoff run this season, however the same can't be said about their AHL affiliate team, the Utica Comets who have a terrible record of 0-8-1 throughout their nines games this season.
Leaving the Comets in dead last of the Eastern Conference in 2024-25. Ultimately leaving the team to make the decision to relive Kevin Dineen of his duties.
#NEWS: We have relieved Kevin Dineen of his head coaching duties with the Utica Comets (AHL) and named Assistant Coach Ryan Parent as Interim Head Coach for the rest of the season.
The 61-year old is former veteran of the National Hockey League, who has played over 1,100 before joining the coaching staff, where he spent time in the AHL and even the NHL, spending time as an assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks back when Joel Quenneville was the head coach. Unfortunately he isn't the coach he once was, and only after three seasons with the team he is now gone.
«Unfortunately, after the start we had to this season, the organization felt it was time to make a change while the season is still young,» said MacKinnon. «We thank Kevin for his time with Utica and wish him and his family all the best moving forward.»
Despite Dineen's poor start to the 2024-25 season, he has perversely lead the Comets to an impressive AHL record in 2021, where the team recorded 13 straight victories to the start of the season, a record that still remains undefeated to this day.
The Utica Comets have named 37-year old assistant coach Ryan Parent as Dineen's replacement. Parent has been with the organization for the past seven years, will now have to try and flip this team around, in hopes they can start winning some games.
