Given his concussion history, it makes you wonder if he'll be mentally ready, and healthy to assume the 3rd line center role for the Rangers this season.
If he is ready to do so, will he play the kind of game the Rangers need him to, a fast-paced heavy style of forechecking, or will he have to be monitored?
Honestly, given his history and the fact he should have one more opportunity to prove himself, the Rangers should let him play one game monitored and make their decisions from there.
At 24 years old, the Czech center is in the prime of his career, yet he could be suffering from post-concussion syndrome or side effects, a head-case literally.
The last concussion he suffered in November 2023 was the fourth head injury of his career. He returned to practice in January after rest and was then ruled out for the rest of the season.
Chytil was a 2017 first-round pick, 21st overall, and would score at a 45-point clip in 74 games, made you think the sky is the limit for the Czech-born center.
However, we don't know as he will have to undergo testing, and if he passes, will have to undergo step-by-step monitoring to ensure he's ready to return to the ice. Should he fail, his career in the NHL could be considered done and over with.
Should he pass, he should be given another shot, with intense monitoring to follow, given how Sidney Crosby has persisted after his concussion issues.
But we can also consider the opinion of dissenters who also have Chytil's health in mind:
"Chytil SHOULD NOT attempt to play this coming season," says Grimm who roots as hard as anyone for The Garden's doughty NHL team.
"Filip needs to have an intervention with Pat LaFontaine, Mike Richter, and many of the other players who've had their careers shortened by concussions."
Mind you, Grimm's is not a solitary opinion. Excellent hockey photographer David Perlmutter comes on strong with Gorgeous George.
"Grimm's position is the sagest comment ever posted here on The Maven's post," snaps Perlmutter, when he's not snapping a picture. "I've been saying the same thing since Chytil got his last concussion."
I'm sure that Chytil is as anxious to help his hockey club as he was on May 9th when his comeback against Carolina was closely watched.
Grimm says it should be his last regular season or otherwise.
"I say to Chytil, 'Quit while you still have that option. Go into coaching or scouring, but don't risk your health any more than you already have!"
