The New York Rangers broke their 5-game slump today, as they defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-3.

Despite that, there's no telling if the team can be consistent as there have been offensive and defensive woes that have been a bother for the team.

Top-six forwards not producing, and defensemen failing to perform up to expectation. One of them is forward Reilly Smith, who was brought in to light a spark in the offense, yet has been a disappointment this season.

In 22 games, Smith has posted only 12 points( 3 G, 9 A) and has been a victim of circumstance.

As part of the Laviolette mix-up, he's been linemate to multiple teammates this season and now has found himself as a healthy scratch.

With news that the team intends on moving veterans like Chris Kreider, and Jacob Trouba could Reilly Smith be next on the block?

Smith joined Jonny Brodzinski riding pine today, as Filip Chytil and Chris Kreider returned to the lineup.

Given how much GM Chris Drury gave up to acquire forward Reilly Smith, it's hard to imagine how much he'd get for moving him.

New York acquired Smith during the offseason from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick in what was the team's biggest splash of the summer.

The team is now 13-9-1 with Smith out of the lineup, could he find himself on the next plane out of New York once the trade deadline arrives?

The team hoped he'd be a great addition to the top six, and find his scoring touch once again, but Brett Berard may have found a new home on the left side now.
